Michael York stands for over 150 movies in front of the camera. He played in "Romeo & Juliette" the Tybalt. An highlight in his carreer was the male main role in Bob Fosses "Cabaret" in 1972 on the side of Liza Minelli. His most popular role he played in the role of D'Artagnan in "The three Muketeers/ The four Musketeers - The revenge of the Mylady" under the direction of Richard Lester. While the years of the 70´s York also played in movies like "Murder on the Orient Express" or "Logan's Run". Fromt he 80´s on you could not see him very often in cinema productions, at this time he worked more fot TV. Michael played three times the boss of the bizarre secret agent "Austin Powers" on the side of Beyonce and mike Meyers. His wife is a excited photographer and both loves my photographies like I love Michaels films. So in Los Angeles it came to a meeting between us where we could discuss about photography and actors. If you meet such a worldstar of course I also needed to photograph him. The pictures are for my exhibition in London this year and for my new book "Manfred Baumann - Photographie". I photographed with three different sets. At the first one I only used daylight supported with some lightner from California Sunbounce. The second set was a softbox, which reflected from above on the sunbounce, in fornt of it stands Michael. The third set was with a harder light from the side and another flashlight from the back. By now I rent the whole equipment in the US, for this in LA my partner is Sammys Camera! I am doing this because of on the one side it is difficult to travel into the country with the whole equipment and on the other side it is hard to work with it in the US because of the different voltages. It was really a great pleasure for me to meet and photograph Michael. Also he telled us that he really likes Vienna and so we are glad about a meeting in Vienna that we can go to a "Heuriger".

Ein Höhepunkt seiner Karriere war die männliche Hauptrolle in Bob Fosses "Cabaret" im Jahr 1972 an der Seite von Liza Minnelli.
Seinen wohl populärsten Part spielte er als D'Artagnan in "Die drei Musketiere/Die vier Musketiere – Die Rache der Mylady" unter der Regie von Richard Lester. Während der 1970er-Jahre übernahm York außerdem Rollen in populären Filmen wie "Mord im Orient-Expreß" oder "Flucht ins 23. Jahrhundert".
Ab den 1980er-Jahren fanden sich für ihn jedoch kaum noch wichtige Kinorollen.
Er arbeitete regelmäßig für das Fernsehen. Michael spielte drei Mal den Vorgesetzten des skurrilen Geheimagenten „Austin Powers“ an der Seite von Beyonce und Mike Meyers.
Seine Frau ist selbst eine begeisterte Fotografin und beide lieben sie meine Fotografien so wie ich seine Filme. So kam es in Los Angeles endlich zu einem Treffen und wir konnten über das Fotografieren und Schauspieler diskutieren. Wenn man dann einen solchen Weltstar trifft, mußte ich ihn natürlich auch fotografieren.
Die Fotos wurden für meine Ausstellung in London dieses Jahr sowie für mein neues Buch
"Manfred Baumann - Photographie" gemacht.
Fotografiert habe ich mit drei unterschiedlich aufgebauten Sets.
Beim ersten habe ich nur Tageslicht eingesetzt und dieses mit Aufhellern von California Sunbounce unterstützt. Das zweite Set bestand aus einer Softbox, diese hat von oben leicht schräg auf die Sunbounce reflektiert, davor stand dann Michael. Das dritte Set bestand aus einem härteren Blitzlicht welches ich seitlich plazierte und einem Spitzlicht von hinten. Derzeit handhabe ich es so, dass ich mir das gesamte Equipment in den Staaten anmiete, in LA ist hierfür mein Partner Sammys Camera!
Denn auf der einen Seite ist es sehr schwer mit allem einzureisen und zum anderen ist es kompliziert wegen den unterschiedlichen Stromspannungen.
Es hat mich sehr gefreut Michael zu treffen und ihn fotografieren zu können. Auch erzählte er uns, dass er ein großer Liebhaber Wiens ist, daher freuen wir uns auf ein gemeinsames Wiedersehen in Wien, damit wir zu einem Heurigen gehen können.
