What do you need to composite a good portrait? this question I got this week from a fan and I will tell you in this blog abou it. In Los Angeles we had the opportunity to photograph a famous actor, Brad Garrett. Brad Garrett is an american actor and comedian with italian roots. He is well knowen with his role the sitcom "Everybody loves Raymond" and he became 3 Emmys. Also he had roles in movies like "Music and Lyrics" with Drew Barrymores and Hugh Grant, as Hugh Grants agent, or in "The Babynator" with Vin Diesel where he played the crazy sportscoach. Also he speaked the voice from Gusteau in the animationmovie "Ratatouille". Brad is a really interesting person with an expressiv and fotogenic face. The first step to a really good portrait is a warm-up with the person who do you want to photograph, to get to know eachother a little bit better. This conversation is the chance to recognize for yourself which are the right lightdirections for the shooting. Important is to find quickly out the pros and cons about a person and how to underline or reduce them with the right light. Also you need to change often your own perspective and the light. Often for a professional lightdirection it is enough if you use brightners and normal daylight. I think it is comparable with sports, to get a good photographer you need a lot of practice and you need to spend a lot of time with study photographs. It is also important to take care that the lightdirection at women is another then it is by men. Also the make-up, styling and the right outfit are very important elements on the way to a good portrait. With amateurmodels and friends you need to practice very well the faceexpression, sometimes it is a good help to talk through the camera and wait for the right moment.
Brad, who is a comedian and by now on stage in Las Vegas, was very professional. So he had no problems with the posings and the work with the camera. Somebody who is really professional with his work is the best thing you can have as a photographer. The only problem was Brads size, because to work with a 2 meters high man was not so easy. Next week I am back in Vienna where I am searching the new Miss Austria, but about that I will tell you the next time.

Gerne möchte ich auf die Frage in meinem heutigen Blog näher eingehen.
In Los Angeles hatten wir die Möglichkeit einen berühmten Schauspieler zu fotografieren, Brad Garrett.
Brad Garrett ist ein amerikanischer Schauspieler und Komiker mit italienischen Wurzeln.
Er ist vor allem durch seine Rolle in der Sitcom "Alle lieben Raymond" bekannt geworden und gewann bisher 3 Emmys.
Unter anderem ist er auch in dem Film "Mitten ins Herz" mit Drew Barrymores und Hugh Grant als dessen Agent zu sehen. Genauso in "Der Babynator" mit Vin Diesel in welchem er den verrückten Sportlehrer verkörpert.
Außerdem spricht er in dem Animationsfilm "Rataouille" die Rolle des Gusteau.
Brad ist ein wirklich interessanter Mensch mit einem sehr ausdrucksstarken und fotogenen Gesicht.
Der erste Schritt zu einem ausdrucksstarken Portrait ist das Warm-up mit demjenigen den man fotografieren möchte um sich so ein wenig besser kennen zu lernen. Denn nur so kann man erkennen wie man ihn am besten in das rechte Licht rückt. Wichtig ist es rasch die Vor- und Nachteile an einer Person zu finden und zu versuchen diese mit dem richtigen Licht zu unterstreichen bzw. zu verstecken. Ändere auch Du öfters Deine Perspektive und das Licht.
Oft reichen einfache Aufheller oder Tageslicht für eine professionelle Lichteinstellung.
Ich denke es ist wie im Sport, man kann nur dann wirklich gut werden wenn man viel trainiert und sich mit vielen Fotos beschäftigt.
Wichtig ist auch zu beachten, dass man das Licht bei Frauen anders setzen muss als bei Männern.
Genauso sind Make-up, Styling und das richtige Oberteil wichtige Bestandteile eines guten Shootings.
Bei Amateurmodels und Freunden ist es besonders wichtig an dem Gesichtsausdruck zu arbeiten, dann ist es manchmal eine gute Hilfe wenn man sich durch die Kamera unterhält und so auf den richtigen Moment wartet.
Brad, der als Komiker im Moment live auf der Bühne in Las Vegas steht, ist ein absoluter Profi.
Daher hatte er auch wenig Probleme mit Posings und der Kameraarbeit.
Ganz der Profi, so wie man es sich als Fotograf nur wünschen kann.
Das einzige Problem war seine Größe, denn mit einem 2 m Mann zu arbeiten ist gar nicht so einfach.
Nächste Woche bin ich wieder in Wien und auf der Suche nach der neuen Miss Austria, doch davon erzähle ich euch beim nächsten Mal.
