After more than 20 days in wilderness we are lucky to come to little towns. Now we are close to our end - Vancouver, where we will spend the last few days of our tour.
Travelphotography for me is very special and interesting but in my eyes also a challenge. A good picture schould arrest the beholders attention, it should reflect a certain sentiment and it should tell a story. Every longer I look at a picture the more thoughts should grow.
A photography also tell you something about the photographer!
My example is a photo which I made "New York", it´s one of my favourites and most favoured pictures. It´s not only to see in good galleries all over the world but also Sir Roger Moore has this picture printed on canvas at a height of 2m.
Standing in front of this photo you always will explore something new. Questions I like to invoke in the beholders phantasie are: When was this picture taken? At which time of the day and was it in springtime, summer, ...? Where was the photographers point when he took the picture? Also the people you can see are interesting: Where will they go? Are they comming home from work? Do the live still there or somewhere else? The man in front, what is he thinking about? Are the shops still exist? And many more questions ....
The skills of a good photographer should be the ability to abandon the familiar to explore new sites and more interesting points of view which he can ban with his camera.
Imagine, how many people took a picture of the Eifeltower in Paris? Most of them took the picture from the point where they were standing when tey saw the tower the first time. Try something new - a professional photographer wants his picture to be special and unique.
Today there are not only books and caledars with photos also the internet is a wide platform to change pictures or to see pictures from hobby photographers. Also for this medium it is basic to show something special, abandon the familiar, picture setting, black and white or colour, details, ... you have many possibilities to make your picture one-of-a-kind!
Create your own distinctively style which will be your signature for your pictures. You should not copy or search in courses for the right picture.
It´s comparable with musicians - they are just successful when they have teir individual style or a special voice.
For me personal Adams Ansel was one of the greatest photographers.
For this new blog I added some pictures from the current tour; also two pictures from Alaska. One shows a lake in colour - I took this photo early morning at 6am so I was able to capture the silence and the calmness of this scene.
The old roadhouse I saw on the way to Fairbanks. This house really has stories to tell! In black and white whith this dramatic heaven it looks awesome. Besides all technical issues I hope I could insipre you for your holiday and travel photographs.
Unfortunately the tour is soon over but very interesting new work is witing for me in Munich, New York, L.A. and Vienna.
But we make new plans for our next tour - Japan ...

Nach über 20 Tagen Wildnis freuen wir uns, wieder durch kleine Städte zu kommen und nähern uns Vancouver, wo wir die letzten Tage unserer Tour verbringen werden.
Die Reisefotografie ist für mich besonders interessant und schön aber meines Erachtens auch sehr schwierig! Ein gutes Foto muss den Betrachter fesseln, eine Stimmung wiedergeben bzw. eine Geschichte erzählen. Je länger ich es betrachte, umso mehr Gedanken und Fragen sollen sich ergeben und so nimmt die Geschichte ihren Lauf.
Das Foto sagt auch etwas über den Fotografen aus.
Mein Beispiel an dieser Stelle ist mein Foto "New York", eines meiner liebsten & beliebtesten Fotos, welches nicht nur weltweit in Galerien zu sehen ist, sondern auch
Sir Roger Moore besitzt. "New York" ist ein 2 Meter hohes Leinenfoto voller Leben.
Steht man davor, entdeckt man immer wieder Neues. Fragen des Betrachters könnten sein: Wann wurde das Bild fotografiert?...zu welcher Tageszeit oder Jahreszeit? Die Menschen die darauf zu sehen sind, finde ich auch sehr interessant. Gehen die gerade von der Arbeit heim? Wo leben sie jetzt? Was denkt der Mann im Vordergrund? Wo war der Standort des Fotografen? Gibt es die Geschäfte & Lokale noch? ....und so weiter, und so weiter!
Die Kunst eines guten Fotografen ist es, das Gewohnte zu verlassen um Neues & Interessantes mit der Kamera einzufangen.
Nun stellt Euch mal vor, wieviele Menschen den Eifelturm in Paris schon fotografiert haben. In den meisten Fällen haben sie ihn gleich von dem Standort, von welchem sie ihn das erste Mal entdeckt haben, fotografiert.
Versucht es anders zu machen! Ein Berufs- oder Hobbyfotograf möchte, dass seine Fotos gerne und immer wieder gesehen werden.
Heute gibt es noch zusätzlich zu Kalendern, Büchern, Magazinen und Zeitungen, das Internet. In unzähligen Foren, haben Hobbyfotografen die Möglichkeit sich auszutauschen. Aber das Wesentliche ist nach wie vor, das Gewohnte zu verlassen. Zu beachten sind Bildaufbau, SW oder Farbe, Details und Ausschnitte etc.
In weiterer Folge sollte man versuchen einen eigenen Stil zu entwickeln, der sich wie eine Handschrift durch alle Fotos zieht, und sie so unverkennbar macht. D.h. man sollte andere nicht kopieren oder in Kursen nach dem perfekten Foto suchen.
Vergleichbar mit Musikern, welche nur dann ewig erfolgreich sind, wenn sie Ihren eigenen Stil & eine unverkennbare Stimme besitzen.
Für mich persönlich zählt der leider bereits verstorbene Fotograf Adams Ansel zu den ganz Großen.
Zu meinem heutigen Blogeintrag habe ich Euch von meiner derzeitigen Reise durch Alaska 2 Fotos hinzugefügt.
Auf einem Foto ist ein See in Farbe zu sehen, den ich um 6 Uhr früh fotografiert habe und somit die Morgenstimmung & Ruhe einfangen konnte.
Das zweite Foto zeigt ein altes Roadhouse, das ich auf dem Weg nach Fairbanks entdeckte. Dieses Haus hat viele Geschichten zu erzählen und in SW, mit dem bewölkten Himmel finde ich es am eindrucksvollsten. Ich hoffe, dass ich euch mal abseits von aller Technik, für Eure kommenden Urlaubs- bzw. Reisefotos inspirieren konnte.
Leider ist unsere Reise bald zu Ende und es wartet jede Menge Arbeit in München, New York, L.A. und Wien auf mich.
Aber wir spinnen bereits neue Reisepläne, unsere nächste Tour führt uns nach Japan.....
My wife and I always suffer from the faraway ... Last week we went to Canada by airplane for taking photographs for new books and exhibitions. Our tour took us from Vancouver through the Banff & Jasper National Park - the Rocky Mountains to Alaska, where we will explore Fairbanks, Valdez and Anchorage. This time we are in North Pole the hometown of Santa Claus - it is Christmas time the whole year round.
During the last few days we saw wild animals in an awesome landscape. We spent days driving through untouched lands, snow coverd hills ans mountains, torrential rivers and crystal clear lakes. Wild horses, elks, wolves, bears, eagles, beavers, foxes, buffaloes and bisons cross our way ... It is impressive - early in the morning you step out your camper and you can watch the elks bathing or bears combing through the forest.
Driving around with our camper makes us very flexible. But wild animals could be unreckonable what we experienced the day before. We stopped our camper to take a picture from a bear but the animal ran to us as quick as he could. We closed the windows just in time but the bear tried to get in the car - lucky we he can´t get in but he was smart and crept to the front door but we were smart too and locked the door :-) We escaped from this place. Here the days are very long but the night lasts just for 2-3 hours.
The next time I´ll tell you more about taking photographs of landscapes and useful techniques as far as we find some place where we can receive the internet ;-)

Immer wieder zieht es mich in die Ferne. Gemeinsam mit meiner Frau habe ich bereits wenige Wochen nach meiner Heimkehr schon wieder Fernweh. Vor einer Woche sind wir nach Canada geflogen, um für weitere Ausstellungen und Bücher zu fotografieren.
Unsere Tour führte uns bisher von Vancouver, durch den Banff & Jasper National Park, über die Rocky Mountains bis nach Alaska, wo wir Fairbanks, Valdez und Anchorage erkunden werden.
Zur Zeit befinden wir uns aber in North Pole, der Heimatstadt von Santa Claus. Hier ist das ganze Jahr Weihnachten!
In den letzten Tagen sahen wir sehr viele wilde Tiere in einer atemberaubenden Landschaft.
Wir fuhren tagelang durch unberührtes Land, vorbei an schneebedeckten Bergen, reissenden Flüssen und glasklaren Seen.
Wildpferde, Elche, Wölfe, Bären, Adler, Biber, Füchse, Büffel und Bisons kreuzen täglich unseren Weg. Es ist sehr beeindruckend, wenn man früh morgens aus seinem Camper kommt, und Elche beim baden im Wasser beobachten kann oder Bären, die den Wald durchforsten. Das Reisen mit dem Camper macht uns sehr flexibel.
Wilde Tiere sind allerdings unberechenbar, was sich vorgestern wieder bestätigte. Als wir mit unserem Camper anhielten, um einen Schwarzbären zu fotografieren, kam dieser sehr rasch und respektlos auf uns zu. Schnell schlossen wir die Fenster, weil er unbedingt in das Fahrzeug wollte. Als ihm das durchs Fenster nicht gelang, schlich er clever zur Eingangstür, die glücklicherweise ebenfalls geschlossen war.
Wir sind geflüchtet!
Die Tage hier sind sehr lang und wir haben nur 2-3 Stunden Nacht.
Beim nächsten Bericht, erzähle ich Euch ein wenig mehr über die Landschaftsfotografie & Technik, sofern es in der Wildnis nochmals Internet gibt ;)
My new exhibition: Celebrities, Travel & Nudes, started on Monday 9th June in Linz, Austria at the Artpark Gallery. It was a very sucsessful evening and also an evening which was very important for me personally - I had the chance to show how important it is to have real friends and an amazing family.
Many people came to Linz - my mother, Christine Gabriel who took a short break of her holidays to come to the exhibition opening, with my darling sister, Petra. Also my uncle Peter Malecz and my aunt Renate - they never miss any exhibition the last years. My longtime friend Thomas Frischherz with his wife Doris.
Manuel Ortega, an awesome young musician and soulmate of mine who opened the evening with fantastic songs. He and his girlfiend Isabella - they really grew fond of me - and to cite Sigmund Freud: "There are many people but just a few persons."
Lisa Fitz, who is a fan of my photographs came from Germany with her friend Peter. Uwe Kröger came from Berlin, where he is the star in the musical "Elisabeth". He is not only a star in the world of musical but also a personal star for my handicapped sister Petra!
Pierre Geisensetter a very famous german anchorman who did a really good job by moderating this evening. The day before the vernissage we went to the EM-Fanzone in Vienna-City and kept our fingers crossed for Austria and Germany - it was amazing!
Ingrid Apfelthaler who was one of my first models is with her husband Ronny always a welcome guest at my events!
I want to say THANK YOU to all the fabulouse guests who celebrate with me that wonderful evening. It was really a big event with about 300 guests and my assistant Sonja Vocke did a great job. 2008 will be really an amazing year for us - the last few weeks of this year we will be in California to take photographs of this beautiful part of the U.S. But before I´ll have another book release - "Celebrities" will be presented in Munich. We have appointments for the biggest book mess in Europe at Frankfurt. In August I have a course. That´s pretty much and so we´re looking forward to the photojourney which we will start on friday. Nelly and I we will drive through Canada and Alaska for four weeks with an hughe motorhome and the camera is of course part of the journey! We will send a report as soon as we will find internet ...

Liebe Fotofreunde, Am 09. Juni wurde meine Ausstellung "Celebrities, Travel & Nudes " in Linz eröffnet, und ist noch 3 Wochen im Art Park zu sehen.
Die Vernissage war sehr erfolgreich! Für mich war es auch ein Abend, an dem sich zeigte wie wichtig und schön es ist, wahre Freunde und eine Familie zu haben.
Viele haben den Weg auf sich genommen und sind nach Linz gekommen.
Meine Mama, Christine Gabriel, hat ihren Urlaub in Schladming unterbrochen, um mit meiner Schwester Petra dabei zu sein.
Auch mein Onkel Peter Malecz und Tante Renate haben in den letzten Jahren kaum eine Ausstellungseröffnung oder Kalenderpräsentation versäumt.
Mein langjähriger & einer meiner besten Freunde, Thomas Frischherz, ist mit seiner Frau Doris angereist.
Manuel Ortega, ein fantastischer Musiker & Seelenverwandter, hat an diesem Abend für den passenden Sound gesorgt. Er und Isabella sind mir sehr stark ans Herz gewachsen und um Sigmund Freud zu zitieren "Es gibt viele Leute, aber nur wenig Menschen".
Lisa Fitz, die meine Fotografie sehr schätzt, ist mit Ihrem Freund Peter aus Deutschland angereist.
Uwe Kröger, kam extra aus Berlin, wo er gerade in "Elisabeth" spielt.
Er beeindruckt nicht nur als Musicalstar, sondern auch mit Herz für meine behinderte Schwester Petra.
Pierre Geisensetter führte souverän durch den Abend, und zählt zu den besten Moderatoren im deutschsprachigen Raum.
Am Tag vor der Vernissage waren wir gemeinsam in der EM- Fanmeile in Wien und haben mit Österreich und Deutschland gezittert.
Ingrid Apfelthaler, war eines meiner ersten Models, und ist mit Ihrem Mann Ronny stets ein gern gesehener Gast auf meinen Events.
Natürlich habe ich mich auch über die vielen anderen Gäste des Abends sehr gefreut und möchte ein großes Dankeschön aussprechen.
Die Veranstaltung war mit über 300 Gästen top besucht und meine Agentin, Sonja Vocke, hat perfekte Arbeit geleistet.

Nelly und ich durchqueren Canada/ Alaska mit einem riesigen Wohnmobil, wobei die Kamera selbstverständlich nicht fehlen darf,
